The Treaty
of Utrecht was a treaty that was signed in the town of Utrecht in Great Britain
the year 1713 by Louis XIV of France, Phillip V of Spain, Anne of Great
Britain, John V of Portugal, Victor Amadeus II of Savoy and the United
Provinces. In this treaty Phillip V of Spain renounced to the throne of France
and yielded to England Menorca and Gibraltar. Then Spain also yielded to the
signatories terrains from his kingdom, terrains that would help the countries
that have signed the treaty. In this treaty Great Britain won Gibraltar and
Menorca. These territories were in a
strategic point because in Gibraltar Great Britain can communicate with the
Atlantic Ocean and with the Mediterranean Sea.
Menorca was also a strategic point because Great Britain could control
trade along the Mediterranean Sea.
